Flouride Treatment

A powerful shield to protect teeth and resilient foundation for your lasting oral health.

Fluoride treatment is a preventive dental procedure that involves the application of fluoride to the teeth to strengthen enamel and prevent tooth decay. Fluoride is a natural mineral that helps remineralize the enamel which is the protective outer layer of the teeth.

This process makes the enamel more resistant to acid attacks from plaque bacteria and sugars in the mouth. During a fluoride treatment, the dentist or dental hygienist applies the fluoride directly to the teeth, allowing it to be absorbed into the enamel.

Common Flouride Treatments

There are four ways to make sure your teeth get enough fluoride. Fluoride can be obtained in the following ways:

  1. Drink water with fluoride in it.
  2. Use toothpaste and mouthwash that has fluoride.
  3. Take a fluoride supplement.
  4. Visit Turabi Dentistry for fluoride treatments.

Who needs flouride treatment ?

Depending on your oral assessment and health, the dentist will advise and recommend the frequency of the treatment.
Look out some of these symptoms before consulting your dentist.

Adults

Adults (1)

Gum recession is common among adults, revealing more of their teeth and raising the chance of cavities. Adults with a higher cavity risk are usually advised to undergo fluoride treatments twice annually.

Children

Tooth decay is recognized as one of the most prevalent chronic childhood issues. Therefore, it is suggested for kids to have fluoride treatments at the dentist every 3–6 months, based on their likelihood of getting cavities.

Patients with braces

Orthodontic devices often have small gaps that are challenging to clean with a toothbrush. Over time, these areas can lead to tooth decay due to plaque buildup. Individuals with braces can consider getting fluoride treatment to safeguard their teeth.

Care after Flouride Treatment:

After receiving fluoride treatment, general care instructions are as follows:

  1. For adults, refrain from eating or drinking for approximately 30 minutes after the treatment. In the case of children receiving fluoride varnish, if they need to eat afterward, provide only soft foods and steer clear of hot foods or liquids.
  2. Your pediatric dentist may recommend waiting for a certain period before brushing teeth for children who have undergone fluoride treatment.
  3. Maintain regular dental care for both you and your child by consistently brushing, flossing, and maintaining a healthy diet.
